I grew up in a very small, Presbyterian church. My parents baptized and dedicated me to the church when I was a baby. We went to church every Sunday, and I was lucky enough to grow up in a Christian home where Jesus was always first.
Fast forward to my college days, I got involved in a few different campus ministries. I began to make friends with other Christians my age. I found an awesome church that was unlike any other church I’d been to before. It was a non-denominational church that was very contemporary. You could feel the Holy Spirit in that place, and it was always very moving. This was really when I started to make the decision to follow Christ for myself, not because my family was telling me to.

Throughout my involvement with different organizations, I would hear countless testimonies about when people dedicated their life to the Lord. It usually was at an age where they made the decision for themselves. I always felt in my heart that I wanted to become baptized as an adult and make the public declaration to follow Jesus. However, pride stood in the way for many years. What would people think about me? After all, I’ve been talking about Jesus since I learned how to talk. Would they think it was a fake? And that’s not true at all. Once you’ve received Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you are saved.
5+ years I went back and forth on the idea of baptism as an adult. I finally decided that I never would want to keep my love for Jesus Christ hidden. It was such an emotional experience, and I’m SO happy I did it. If you are in a similar situation, I encourage you to get baptized. God doesn’t love you any more if you do or don’t! However, it does something to you personally.
